The Teachings of Jesus Christ

Matthew 7:1-6 (KJV)

Criticism

7:1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.

7:2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

7:3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

7:4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?

7:5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

7:6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

It's very easy to see other people's faults while ignoring our own. Jesus warns us to not be hypocritical by telling other people what they are doing wrong while pretending that we have no shortcomings of our own (Matthew 7:1-5).

Jesus also tells us that some people just don't want to hear about God. If someone makes it clear that they don't want to hear what you have to say, leave them alone and go and tell somebody else about God. You might still be able to witness to those people who don't want to hear about God by being a light for them. Let them see your good works (Matthew 5:16).
