Matthew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
[KJV]
Jesus said that He came to earth not to destroy the law or the prophets, but to fulfill. In the very next verse, He told us when the law would pass away - when the law is fulfilled.
Many people think that Matthew 5:18 says that the law will stand forever. It doesn't say that. If that last phrase "till all be fulfilled" wasn't part of the verse, it would mean that the law will last forever (or at least, until heaven and earth passed away). Because of that final phrase, the verse is actually a statement of when the law will pass away. Taken in context with Jesus's statement in Matthew 5:17, it shows that once Jesus fulfilled the law, the law passed away.
The only question remaining is, "which law did Jesus fulfil?" The law that Jesus was born under, the law in effect when he was alive, is the Law of Moses - the Old Testament Law. This is the law that Jesus fulfilled and abolished.
